Dalzell, SC…. John Chester Everett, age 85, beloved husband of 37 years to Gladys Virginia “Jenny” Bernecky Everett, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital.
Born in Chattanooga Valley, GA, he was the son of the late Chester Acre Everett and Muriel Denton Everett. After high school, John enlisted in the air force where he served in Vietnam. His career took him all over the world and he was stationed at air bases in Greece, Iceland, Guam, the Philippines and many more domestically. He retired from the US Air Force, as an MSGT, in 1979 while stationed at Bergstrom AFB, TX. Following his military career, he worked with a food merchandising company that supplied food to military commissaries in both GA and SC and he would eventually become their district manager. He eventually would become the managing liaison for the commissary at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC where he managed the many suppliers for their store.
John enjoyed working in his yard, as well as watching auto racing, especially NASCAR. He loved all animals, but his true passion was his bird dogs. He was an avid bird hunter and served as the past president of the National Bird Hunter’s Association. He held the position of president for the Sumter County Chapter as well as the South Carolina Chapter and the National Chapter. John was a kind and generous man and will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife Jenny, he is survived by a son, Barry Todd Everett and his wife Renee of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Kimberly Jo McCracken of Daniel Island, SC, Stacy Kirven and her husband Tim of Sumter, Jodi Lucas and her companion Charles Fields of Dalzell, SC, and Shannon Barrett and her husband Ronald of Wedgefield, SC; two brothers, Jimmie Everett and his wife Faye, and Jake Everett and his wife Doris, both of Rossville, GA; two sisters, Martha Elrod of Chattanooga, TN, and Carol Denton of Gulf Shores, AL; fourteen grandchildren, Megan Barrett, Kirsten Greer and her husband Johnathan, Emily Lucas, Teague McCracken, Allison Lucas, Ava McCracken, Ella Everett, Kaitlyn Barrett, Jesse Everett, Trey Kirven, Corbyn Player, CJ Kirven and his wife Katie, Tyson Kirven, and Ansley Player; two great grandchildren, Jackson Mezzo and Olivia Kirven, and two special friends, Dr. Lester Bell and Mark Barnette.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Barnette officiating. The interment will follow the service in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
