Sumter, SC…John Edwin “Jack” O’Neil, age 81, beloved husband of the late

Janiece Adams O’Neil, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland.

Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late John Paul O’Neil and Doris Katherine Donahue O’Neil.  Jack was raised in Dorchester, MA and Weymouth, MA.  He attended Norwich University where he was a member of the university’s hockey team and graduated in 1963.  After graduation Jack joined the U.S. Army where he was a member the signal corps and served in Vietnam.  Upon completion of his tour in the army, Jack began his engineering career at Westinghouse and would transition to Eaton / Cutler-Hammer in Sumter, SC.  He worked as a product line manager for many years and was promoted to be their national sales and marketing manager in Pittsburgh, PA.  He would serve in this role until his retirement in September 2001.  During his time in Sumter, Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 15, the Pee Dee Senior Golf Club, the Godfathers Golf Group and was very involved with the Sumter Chamber of Commerce as well as the Sumter Touchdown Club.  Some of his favorite activities include horse racing, playing golf, reading, and attending many of his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving to cherish his memory are; two sons, Bill Sanders, and Steve Sanders; a daughter, Katie Jones and her husband Rick; a brother, Larry O’Neil and his wife Bonnie; a sister, Maureen Goodwin; Nine grandchildren, Ashley Crouch, Jay Sanders and his wife Laiza, Chase Sanders, Corey Sanders and his wife Tien, Danielle Davila and her husband Harley, Jared Sanders and his wife Jen, Karsen Jones, Ryann Jones, and Thomas Jones; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by, a son, Scott Alan Sanders, a brother, Joseph O’Neil, and a sister, Joanne Lynch.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Anne and St. Jude Roman Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Jay Sanders, Corey Sanders, Chase Sanders, Harley Davila, Jared Sanders, and Thomas Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Norwich University Class of 1963, The Godfathers Golf Group, and the Pee Dee Senior Golf Group.
