Joyce Helen Vance went to be with our Lord on July 9, 2025, after a gallant fight all the way to the end. She faced every challenge with courage and an unwavering faith.
Born on May 21, 1953, Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She deeply loved her family and poured her heart into every role she held. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her children and grandchildren - especially cheering from the sidelines as they played softball, always their loudest and proudest fan.
Joyce was a faithful and active member of Sumter First Church of God, where she formed lifelong friendships and found peace and purpose in serving others.
She is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Byron "Butch" Vance; her children Van Smith (Debby), Christopher Smith (Rachel), Douglas Vance (Melissa), and Robert Vance (Jen); her cherished grandchildren Lauren Smith (Shane), Ashlynn Smith (Skyler), Kristi Keller (Chase), Christopher Vance and Kayla Vance; her great grandchildren Laney, Wyatt, Sawyer and Grainger and Parker.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings; Gerald Watford (Leslie), Charles Smith, Larry Smith, and Mandy Hodgson (John); nieces and nephews John Baker (Debra), Steffan Baker (Julie), Jamey Watford (Christie), Jonathan Hodgson (Sarah), Megan Smith, Alyssa Hodgson. She will also be missed by several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Lavan Watford, her mother Mary Ann Lloyd and her brother Roy Watford.
Joyce's life was a testament to strength, love, and unshakable faith. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00am at Sumter First Church of God.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Church and at eldest son's home at 2222 Green Lane, Bishopville, SC, on Friday evening, July 18, 2025, from 5-7pm.
