Kathryn Jane (Schrey) Elkins

Sumter, SC… Kathryn Jane Elkins, age 92, beloved wife of the late Donald Elkins, Sr. died on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at her residence.

Born in Pheonix, AZ, she was the daughter of the late Fred C. Schrey and the late Thelma A. Irvine Schrey.  A strong woman of faith, Kathryn was a faithful member of Alice Drive Baptist Church for over 40 years, and she attended the Pocalla campus.  Throughout her life, she has served her church in many capacities, including singing in the choir and teaching the preschool Sunday school class.  Kathryn was a very sweet soul with a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  She enjoyed socializing with her friends from church as well as watching the Andy Griffith Show and eating tapioca pudding. Kathryn true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was the cornerstone of her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving to cherish her memory are a son, Donald E. Elkins, Jr. and his wife Maryann of Wichita Falls, TX; two daughters, Patricia Diane Shirah and her husband Mickey of Sumter, and Brenda Ardis and her husband Joe of Sumter; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Shirah Johnson, and a brother, Jack Schrey.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Delmar Peet officiating.  The interment will immediately follow the service in the Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
