Columbia, SC…… On the morning of April 7, 2025, God scooped up an angel flying too close to the ground.
Lanell "Dolly" Sipes Rodgers of Columbia, SC, died at age 68 after a yearlong battle with leukemia. We will forever be inspired by her grace and positive outlook as she fought her battle. Born on April 20, 1956, in Harlingen, Texas, she was a graduate of Wilson Hall in Sumter, SC and studied at USC Columbia before receiving an associates degree at USC Sumter. Dolly had a long and illustrious career in the telecommunications industry, during her 46 years she worked for GTE Telephone, Executone, Southern Net, Telecom USA, MCI, Deltacom, Earthlink, before retiring last year from Lumen Technologies. Most of her career was spent in customer service, serving in both support and management roles. Her desk is decorated with the many awards she earned for her work. At age 55, she joined a local Run for God program at Riverland Hills Baptist Church that trained her how to be a runner with spiritual support. It did not take long for this spark to turn into a wildfire of running events. She ran in events all over the state, up to and including many half marathons. She continued to run until her illness made it impossible. Always a competitor, she earned many awards for her efforts. Dolly enjoyed gardening and working in "her" yard. She was an avid Gamecock fan and enjoyed sports in general but loved whichever team son Stephen was coaching for. She treasured the time she was able to spend with Macey and Piper. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Tony; her sons, Chase, Jon and Stephen and her granddaughters, Macey Grace Rodgers-Pedersen and Piper Nicole Rodgers
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard Mack Sipes and Eddie Gaynelle Greene Sipes and sisters, Suanne Sipes Major and Daphne Del Sipes
