Sumter, SC …. Lawrence “Larry” Francis Charles Baum, age 65, beloved husband to Florence B. Arrington, died on Monday, December 12, 2022.
Born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania on April 12, 1957, he was the son of Helen Irene Baum and the late Russell Charles Baum.
A member of the fraternity Alpha Phi Delta, Larry graduated from Rutgers University in 1976 as an engineer, beginning work as an Engineer of industrial components with Federal Mogul, and later in life worked as an antique dealer with his wife.
Larry was a kind and caring man. He was the lifelong companion and best friend of his wife. He also loved and cared for animals, but his cats most of all. Larry was proud of his 20 years of service to the Confederate Stamp Alliance, later known as the Civil War Philatelic Society. An expert on the Civil War, Larry served the organization as both President and Named General and was among the nation’s foremost experts on Southern Advertising Covers, winning Gold and Grand awards for his exhibits at regional, national, and international exhibitions. He was also a member of the Sumter Duplicate Bridge club, and a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League.
In addition to his loving wife and his mother, he is survived by his brother, Steven Baum and his wife Martha Baum, and his brother-in-law, Leslie A Beard, his Niece Kaitlyn and Nephew Andrew, and 5 cousins.
His loss is a great tragedy to his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 12:00PM at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
