Sumter, SC …… Linda Beth Lane Gamlin Townsend, age 68, wife of Charles Townsend passed peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, December 19, 2024 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Linda Beth was born in Washington, DC. She is the daughter of the late Stewart Lynburg Lane and Mother Elizabeth Lane of Sumter, SC. She was raised in the town of New Carrollton, MD. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Salisbury State University and was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church.
Her career consisted of employment at The Business Round Table in Washington, DC. In Florida she worked as a School Bus Driver, Home Business Manager, Post Office employee and in Sumter, SC in retail and the DMV. Linda Beth loved many things including life, plants, animals, music, dancing, boating, fishing, but most of all people and the Lord. She was drawn to the beach, especially Ocean City, Maryland, where she lived, and Myrtle Beach, SC. Her favorite was Islamorada in the Florida Keys, because she said it was glamorous and gorgeous.
Linda Beth is known for saying “Love, Love, Love”and “Happy Day”to her many friends, family, and sometimes strangers. Known for her kind spirit, even temperament and loving heart, she will be greatly missed. Surviving in addition to her husband are: Mother Elizabeth Lane, son Douglas Lane Gamlin, brothers Len Lane and his wife Debbie, Joe Lane and his wife Jeanette as well as multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 11:00-12:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Historic Lynchburg Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, SC.
