M. Elizabeth "Libby" Lane Obituary

Sumter, SC…………………. M. Elizabeth “Libby” Revell Lane, age 93, beloved wife of 71 years to the late Rev. Dr. Stewart “Lindy” Lane, got her wings when God called her home early Thursday, May 1st, 2025 at her home.

Mrs. Lane was born in Effingham, SC, daughter of the late Henry Ham Revell and Mary Willis Revell. Living in Timmonsville, SC with her brothers James Willis Revell and Henry “Bubba” Revell. She was an excellent singer and piano player who loved old hymns at her church. Her beauty won her the title of “Miss Timmonsville”. She was a cheerleader when she met “Lindy”, she fell in love but their relationship as put on hold when he went into the Navy. She went to college and upon his return they were married in her home in Timmonsville. They enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach and shag dancing. Libby and Stew moved to Alexandria, VA to work at the Armed Forces Security Agency which became the National Security Agency (NSA). They enjoyed the Washington D.C. nightlife seeing shows and going dancing. When the NSA moved, they moved to New Carrolton, MD and started a family. Libby was very active at Landover Hills Baptist Church where her beautiful voice was heard in the choir. She was the resident wedding director for the church and always worked with vacation Bible school. Libby and Stew moved to Sumter when her mother needed help and quickly found herself co-founding the Southern Baptist Extension office with him. Wise Drive Baptist Church became their second home. Libby was the matriarch of her family and deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was loved by everyone she met.

Survivors are: Two sons, Len Stewart Lane and his wife Debbie of Stafford, VA, and Joe Pitman Lane and his wife Jeanette of Eldersburg, VA; Eight grandchildren, Douglas Lane Gamlin, Melissa Francis, Michelle Lane, Michael Lane, Maria Cooper, Melissa McIlvaine, Megan Lane and Jessica Lane; and Eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter, Linda Beth Lane Townsend.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, at the Historic Lynchburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 564 Lynchburg Hwy, Lynchburg, SC 29080, with the Rev. Dearld Sterling officiating.

The family will receive from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, at Bullock Funeral Home.
