Sumter, SC……Margaret Rebecca Irick Gainey, widow of the late David Leroy “D.L.” Gainey, died on Friday, January 12, 2024, at her home.
Mrs. Gainey was born in Sumter, SC, a daughter of the late Julius Walker Irick and Elizabeth Hall Stamps. Margaret was a loving and generous mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors are: Two sons, J. Dean Gainey and his wife Susan and J. David Gainey and his wife Laurie, all of Sumter, SC; One daughter, Conswalla “Connie” Gainey Hallman and her husband Elton, Sr. of Sumter, SC; One brother, Julius “JW” Irick of Sumter, SC; One sister, Mary Frances Owen and her husband John of Lyman, SC; Nine grandchildren, Brian Gainey and his wife Michelle, Joshua Hallman and his wife Allison, Todd “Michael” Gainey, Chase Gainey, Brandi Hallman, Casey Gainey, Tony J. Oxendine and his wife Kelsey, Kayla Oxendine and Richard Haile and his wife Ramona; Ten great-grandchildren; and a special companion, Gene Baker, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a granddaughter, Tiffany Hallman.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, Monday, January 15th, 2024 at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edward Flemming officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Josh Hallman, Brandi Hallman, TJ Dempsey, Brian Gainey, Todd “Michael” Gainey, and Casey Gainey.
Honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 2:30-3:00pm, Monday, January 15th, 2024 at Bullock Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm, Sunday, January 14th, 2024 at her residence.
