Sumter, SC …. Mark Jay Schaeffer, age 86, beloved husband of 60 years to Mary Carreon Schaeffer, died on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at National Health Care.
Born in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Schaeffer and Elsie Sophia Lewis Schaeffer. He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 21 years where he received numerous medals, including the Bronze Star. After his career in the Air Force, Mark worked as a pharmaceutical rep for both Scios-Nova and Novartis. He was an avid skeet and trap shooter and always had a smile on his face. He never met a stranger and was known for his great sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Carol Richard and her husband Ritchie of Destin, FL; a brother, Charles D. Schaeffer and his wife Pat of Portland, ME; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family inurnment will be held at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
