Sumter, SC …… Mary Ellen McGurl Gussio, age 76, wife of the late James Michael Gussio, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland surrounded by her family.
Born in Ashland, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. McGurl and Helen M. Tilmont McGurl. Mary Ellen was affectionately known as Aunt Mamie to her nieces and nephews and as Nana to her grandchildren. She was a friend to everyone and was always wearing a smile on her face. Mary Ellen fondly reminisced about her times spent with her girlfriends bowling and traveling, especially to the beach. A strong woman of faith, she was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Anne and St. Jude Roman Catholic Church. It was due to this faith and love for her family and friends that she held such a positive attitude through her many years of health struggles. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
She is survived by two children; a son, Chris Lloyd and his wife Penny of Elgin; a daughter, Kerri Lloyd Touchberry and her fiancée Stephen Boatwright of Sumter; a sister, Eileen Kennedy and her husband John of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren, Daniel Touchberry, Ryan Touchberry, Brantley Boatwright, John Taylor, Jacob Lloyd, and Shannon Lloyd; many special friends, and her faithful canine companion, Buddy.
