Obituary

We are heartbroken at the loss of Matthew Marsh. After a ten-month battle with gastric cancer, Matt passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 with his loved ones by his side.

Matt was a current resident of Sumter, SC. He was born on October 26, 1976 at Hahn AB, Germany and later lived in Roy, UT where he graduated from Roy High School in 1994.

Matt came from a long line of American service members and was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He spent his 20 year career working in Air Transportation. He was stationed all over the world - McGuire AFB, NJ, Ramstein AB, Germany, McChord AFB, WA, Kadena AB, Okinawa, JPN, and then retired from the Air Force at Langley AFB, VA. His specific work included air logistics of equipment, forces, and terminal operations. One assignment he was especially honored to be part of was the rescue, recovery, and return of the remains of American Military members in Southeast Asia.

He graduated from South University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology in 2018. He continued his dedication to the US Military, working as an IT specialist and Software Applications Developer with Apogee Engineering at Shaw AFB, SC.

Matt enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and woodworking. His family will always cherish family dinners, playing games, painting, having picnics, and laughing together. He was kind, giving, thoughtful, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was quiet and humble through all of life’s circumstances. His proudest accomplishments are his three sons, Logan, Dakota, and Blair.
