Patricia Gale (Chitwood) Robbins, 85, departed this life and passed into glory on January 30, 2025, in Sumter, SC. Patty, to her family and friends, and Mama Pat to her grand- and great-grandchildren, was born on November 29,
1939, at Winfield, Scott County, Tennessee. She was the second of three children born to Reverend Roe and Nan (Baird) Chitwood. Patricia met the love of her life, Herbert, while she was a senior at Jacksboro High School, Jacksboro, Campbell County, Tennessee. For 67 years they shared a life of love, seeing the world and raising four children.
With Herbert, Patty traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including most of the fifty United States. Of all the places she visited, perhaps her favorite was sitting on a large rock on the shore of Jenny Lake, Wyoming, watching the sunset and marveling at the beauty of God's earth. She was a talented painter, a gifted seamstress, and a born-again Christian. However, most important to her was being a devoted homemaker who took the greatest pride-and pleasure-in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed gospel music. On any given Sunday morning she would listen to it, stirring up memories of attending church and hearing her father preach. She was a member of the·P.E.O. Sisterhood International, Order of the Eastern Star, First Families of Tennessee, Civil War Families of Tennessee, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Roe and Nancy (Nan) Chitwood, and her sister, Joyce Chitwood Welch. She is survived by her brother Jerry Chitwood (Patsy) of Lancaster, SC; husband Herbert Robbins of Sumter, SC; son Michael Robbins (Denice) of Dumfries, VA; son Gregory Robbins (Peggy) of Belgrade, Serbia; daughter Nikki McGuigan (Michael) of Camden, SC; son Bryan Robbins (Amy) of Sumter, SC; twelve grandchildren and seventeen greatgrandchildren. Hers was a life well-lived. A life filled with love and happiness.
Services will be private.
