Pete Miller Obituary

Pete Miller, 90, of Dalzell, South Carolina, went to be with Jesus on July 28, 2025, peacefully at home with family.

Born on December 8, 1934, in Asheville, North Carolina, Pete lived a full and remarkable life marked by service, faith, generosity, and love.

Pete proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant on May 1, 1974. He was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Unit Citation and the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in the Vietnam War.

After his military career, Pete worked at Holland Office Equipment in Sumter, SC, and was an active and faithful member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church, where his strong faith and warm spirit impacted many lives. He served as a teacher, usher, and deacon—always willing to give his time and heart in service to others.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Williams Miller; his brother, Adelbert Puterbaugh; and his nephew, Eddie Puterbaugh. He is survived by his sister, May DeArman; nieces Daniele (Dayna) Welch, Dawn Blackwell, and Denise Manell; nephews David Puterbaugh and Tim Hamilton; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends that he loved very much.

Pete loved Jesus, loved people, and lived with a generous heart. He was incredibly smart and quick-witted, with a legendary sense of humor and a gift for storytelling. Pete was an exceptional athlete, known for his talent, dedication, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. He could fix just about anything, wow you with rope tricks, and had a soft spot for Clint Eastwood movies. Pete made friends everywhere he went and was cherished by all who knew him.
