Rebecca Bausum Obituary

Sumter, S.C…..Rebecca Lynn Mills Bausum slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on July 1, 2024. She was sixty-six years old. We will celebrate her life and our love for her at Grace Episcopal Church (1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden, South Carolina) on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 4PM.

Our mom, Becki, was born on February 12, 1958, in Lorain, Ohio. She was the second daughter of the late Robert Lee Mills and the late Georgia Mae Turner Mills.

Mom was passionate about making experiences fun and special. She was the go-to lady for party games and crafts and activities for kids. She loved children and she loved teaching. She homeschooled all eight of her children and tutored many other children through the years. Prior to having children, Mom was a gifted elementary school teacher who adored the children in her classes. She brought that love into her teaching throughout her life. Mom always found a way to teach and care for children – in addition to homeschooling her own children, she taught Sunday School classes, was a church nursery director, led children’s Bible studies, organized Vacation Bible School, and directed a large children’s Bible program for many years. She was always prepared with cookies to decorate or a craft project to put together or a game to play.

Mom loved traditions and making memories. She made holidays special, even during difficult times. From our Christmas morning breakfast (with the BEST hot apple cider!), to driving around to look at Christmas lights, to little heart-shaped boxes of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, Mom saw every activity as an opportunity to build a tradition and make a memory. She would tell us stories about our births often, always making each of us feel like the day of our birth was the best day of her life.

Mom loved to help. She was our first call if our car was doing something weird, or if we were sick, or if we were scared, or if we needed help with our taxes. We always knew if we had a question Mom would have an answer.

Mom donated to Hope Children’s Home in Tampa, Florida every month. She loved the mission of this organization and was eager to help them give children safe homes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Children’s Home in Mom’s honor: https://raisedonors.com/hopechildrenshome/donation-page

Mom was met in Heaven by her dad, her mom, her youngest daughter Tabitha, her nieces Elizabeth and Joy, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Mom will be missed by her children, Katharine (Dustin), Ellie, Elijah (Sarah), Josiah (Kendra), Mary (Alex), Leah (Don), James, and Stephen. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Ema, Sophie, Beatrix, Rosie, Gabby, Michelle, Eli, Jonathan, Ryan, Arrow, and Maple.

Mom will be missed by our dad, Tom. She will be missed by her sisters, Diana (Tim), Tressa (Jeff), and Robin (Brian), along with her brothers- and sister-in-law, Bob (Barbara), Dan (Patty), Kathy (Paul), and Jim (Jeanette). She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom is safe with Jesus, and we are glad for her.
