Sumter, SC………………. Rev. Dr. Stewart Lynburg "Lindy" Lane, age 96, beloved husband of 71 years to M. Elizabeth “Libby” Revell Lane, passed on to his heavenly home, Wednesday, December 13th, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Rev. Lane was born in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late Stuart Dutton Lane and Bessie Fountain Lane. He served in the United States Navy as a Top Secret Analyst, completing two tours in World War II and the Korean War and was a Military Codebreaker Specialist. Rev. Lane was a husband, a father, Deacon, Reverend, Seminary Ext. Founder (Sumter) and director and a teacher who earned his Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of SC at the age of 76. He was also a missionary with many overseas assignments and was a representative with the Southern Baptist Convention. Stewart worked for the National Security Agency after his military career where he was assigned to the Pentagon and retired from IBM as a system analyst. He was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: Two sons, Len Stewart Lane and his wife Debbie of Stafford, VA, and Joe Pitman Lane and his wife Jeanette of Eldersburg, VA; One daughter, Linda Beth Lane Townsend and her husband Charles of Sumter, SC; One sister, Bliss Mooneyham of TX; Eight grandchildren, Douglas Lane Gamlin, Melissa Francis, Michelle Lane, Michael Lane, Maria Cooper, Melissa McIlvaine, Megan Lane and Jessica Lane; and six great-grandchildren; Elvin & Stella Rogers and Jimmy & Laura Burgess.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dearld Sterling & Rev. Phillip Beacham officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Historic Lynchburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 564 Lynchburg Hwy, Lynchburg, SC 29080.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 at Bullock Funeral Home.
