Robert Lewis Jones, Sr.

Sumter, SC ….. Robert Lewis Jones, Sr, age 81, beloved husband of 59 years to Gail Wheeler Jones, died on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late William Thomas Jones, Sr, and Dorothy Herbert Jones. He graduated from Edmunds High School in 1964 and went on to graduate from Wingate College. Robert sold cemetery plots for Hillside Cemetery. Robert and his father founded Sumter Contractors / Paving and Grading. He then went on to work for McLaughlin Ford for two years before going to work for Boyle Toyota, then Scott Will Toyota for 38 years. He enjoyed working on antique watches. He helped everyone and loved and treated everyone like family and always had a hug to give. He was of the Methodist faith.   He will be remembered as loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife Gail are; one son, Robert Jones, Jr and his wife Karen C. Jones of Sumter; one daughter, Abby Jones Tisdale and her husband Lynn of Kingstree; one brother, Larry E. Jones and his wife Pat; one sister, Lilyan Jones Coleman and her husband Mike; one brother-in-law, Richard Walker; five grandchildren, Walker Tisdale and his wife Amanda, Dr. Katelyn Tisdale, Morgan Jones, Jacob Jones and Josie Tisdale and two great grandchildren, Kal Tisdale and Maxie Lyn Tisdale.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Jones, Jr. and one sister-in-law, Barbara Wheeler Walker.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 3:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Steve Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
