Sumter, SC……………… Samuel William Gardner, III, age 88, beloved husband of 67 years to Janice Redeker Gardner, died on Friday, May 15, 2026, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.
Mr. Gardner was born in Sumter, SC, a son of the late Samuel W. Gardner, Jr and Phronsie Brabham Gardner. He was a 1956 graduate of Hillcrest High School, afterwards he moved to Kansas City for railroad communications. Sam was an entrepreneur, owning Dalzell Farm Supply, Gardner Enterprises and Consolidated Grain. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: Two daughters, Teresa Gardner-Turner and her husband Michael of Pawleys Island, SC, and Christina Gardner Johnson of Matthews, NC; Seven grandchildren, Joshua Tod Gardner, Jared Christopher Gardner, Jessica Kristin Gardner, Corbin Bayne Turner, Samuel Hayden Turner, Abigail McKenzie Johnson, and Anna Sophia Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Mark Tod Gardner and Michael Paul Gardner and a grandson, Jordan Matthew Gardner.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, May 28th, 2026 at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Barnette officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am, Thursday, May 28th, 2026 at Bullock Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend thanks to the Prisma Health Hospice for all of their loving care of their father over the last months.
