Samuel Lee Hardin, Sr.

Wedgefield, SC…Samuel Lee Hardin Sr., age 69, beloved husband of Peggy Jean Alsbrooks Hardin, died on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late David Ervin Hardin, Sr., and Alice Thelma Branhan Hardin.  Sammy loved to fish, work on cars, and was always pulling pranks.  He loved animals and with his long white beard, he enjoyed dressing up as Santa Clause during the Christmas holidays.  He was selfless in his job as a caretaker and provider for his wife and grandchildren.  His true joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  Sammy will be remembered as a very devoted and loving husband, father, papa, brother, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife Peggy; two sons, Samuel Lee Hardin, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Pinewood, and Wesley Hardin of Wedgefield, SC; two daughters, Angela Hardin McCabe and her husband Artis, and Cynthia O’Connell and her husband Michael, all of Sumter; one brother, James Thomas Hardin and his wife Sharon of Fayetteville, NC; three sisters, Alice Geddings of Sumter, Barbara Way and her husband Allen of Orange Park, FL, and Mary Harper and her husband John of Creedmore, NC; fourteen grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Sarah, Tianna and her husband Jamie, Jake and his wife Lacy, Spencer, Samantha, Caleb, Noah, Jacob, Lucas, Adrian, Scarlette, Breena, MacKayla, and John; and eight great grandchildren, Emma, Henry, James, Emmie, Miles, Julian, Jethro, and Cullen, and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, David Ervin Hardin, Jr. and two infant twins.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter McLeod officiating.
