Sumter, SC…Samuel Maurice Varner, age 70, died on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel Cecil Varner and Mary Rogers Varner. He served in the US Army. He was a retired Antique Dealer. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He attended Lakewood Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine Sweatt Varner; one son, Samuel M. Varner II (Tracey); four daughters, Laurie Cook, Tina Dinkins (Rob), Nicole Grimsley (Brad) and Sibbie Varner; two brothers, Douglas Varner (Barbara) and Cliff Varner; two sisters, Shirley Brading and Allene Gettys; seven grandchildren, Zack, Mark, Hailey, Ellen, Rebecca, Miles, and Shaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Varner and son-in-law, Thomas Cook, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 10:00 am in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm in the Florence National Cemetery with military honors.
