Shirley Ann Manion Ford, age 84, beloved wife of the late James W. Ford, died on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Born in Beech Grove, IN and moved to Atlanta with her family when she was around 9 years old. Shirley was a supportive military wife throughout James’ 20-year career. When Shirley met James, he was a member of the US Navy. He got out of the Navy and then joined the US Air Force for the rest of his career. Their life took them to many different cities around the world and finally settling in Sumter, SC where James retired from military service at Shaw AFB. Shirley chose to make Sumter her home where she lived until the past 16 months, when she moved to PA with her daughter and son-in-law to help with her care. Shirley spent most of her life as a stay-at-home mom raising her children and then worked a few years for the government. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, cooking, baking and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She loved her pets and socializing with her friends, which there were many. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheryl Ford Cook, and her husband David of PA; A brother, Frank Manion and his wife Callie; three grandchildren, Angela Cook and her fiancé Nathaniel Harrison of PA, Lauren Cook Traband and her husband Brian of PA, and Joshua Ford of SC, and five grandchildren, Noah Ford of SC, Aiden Cook, Liam Cook, Paige Cook, and Kyleigh Traband all of PA.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, James E. Ford, a grandson, James “Matthew” Ford, her parents, Dannae and Niles Manion, a brother, Bob Manion, and a sister, Barbara Galloway.
