Sylvia Fields-Johnson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Sylvia Fields-Johnson

Sylvia Fields-Johnson, 69, of Sumter, South Carolina, was born on May 29, 1957, in Estelle, South Carolina, to the late Roosevelt and Annie Lou Mitchell. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend whose life touched many.

Sylvia, a true Gemini, was full of life, personality, and individuality. Those who knew her remember that there was never a dull moment in her presence, and she had a special way of creating lasting memories.

She dedicated many years of service as a Supervisor at the Stamford, Connecticut Post Office. Outside of work, Sylvia enjoyed life fully—she loved visiting casinos, cheering for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Cowboys, and especially traveling to new places with her husband.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory her husband, George B. Johnson; her son, Earl Garner; her granddaughter, Taylor Rose Garner; her brothers, Winfred Mitchell and Scott McCullin; and her sisters, Patricia Mitchell and Elaine Cobb (Derrick). She is also survived by her godchildren, Morgan Johnson and Robert Young Jr.; her special brother-in-law, Robert Young Sr. (Phyllis); her stepmother, Greta Mitchell; her special caretaker, Taneika “Tee” McLeod (Brandon); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Annie Lou Mitchell; her sons, Michael Garner and Dwayne Garner; her brothers, Roosevelt Mitchell Jr. and Marvin Forester Jr.; and her special friend, Sandra Coleman.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Taneika “Tee” and nurse Missy J. for the loving care and dedication shown to Sylvia over the past two and a half years.

Sylvia’s life was a gift to all who knew her. Though she is no longer physically present, her laughter, strength, love, and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Rest peacefully, Sylvia. Your love and memories will remain forever cherished.
