Sumter, SC ….. Thelma Mae Tindall Brown, age 96, beloved wife of the late Morgan J. Brown, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024, at her son’s residence.
Born in Lexington County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Allen Tindall and Inez Kirby Tindall Jeffcoat. A woman of profound faith, Thelma was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church. She dedicated over 42 years of her professional life as a secretary at Santee Print Works, where she earned the affectionate nicknames “Miss. Santee” and “Miss. Richland”, where she worked at Richland Oil Company with her late husband. Thelma was known for her exceptional baking skills, which she was especially famous for her line cakes, which earned her the title of “The Cake Lady.” Thelma was a warm and welcoming person, opening her home and heart to everyone she met. Her greatest joy was her family, particularly all of her grandchildren. She was known for her protective nature and her candid expression, “She might not get a full meal, but she was going to get a sandwich worth,” when she sensed wrongdoing. Thelma’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Heaven has now won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
Thelma is survived by her three sons: Tommy Brown and his wife Linda, Jimmy Brown and his wife Nancy, and Johnny Brown and his wife Adrienne, all of Sumter; her son-in-law Larry Squires, Sr of Sumter; and 76 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
