Sumter, SC …. Thomas Rygalski, age 75, beloved husband of 50 years to Dale Marie McLeod Rygalski, died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at his home.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Telesfor Sylvester Rygalski and Elizabeth Catherine Maier Rygalski. After graduating high school, Tom joined the US Air Force where served his country proudly for 24 years, retiring as a SMSgt. After his separation from the air force, Tom went to work for Carolina Filters in Sumter where he worked for another 33 years. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 3034 and enjoyed traveling to the mountains and vacationing at the Outer Banks. It was there that he developed a passion for surf fishing. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Tom was an avid Steelers fan, but he supported all of the sports teams in Pittsburgh.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his wife Dale, a brother, David R. Rygalski and his wife Connie; a daughter-in-law, LeAnn Rygalski; a grandson, William Adam Rygalski; two sisters-in-law, Liz Belsoe, and Debra Nowakowski and her husband Robert, all of Sumter; two brothers-in-law, Buck McLeod and his wife Rhonda of Barnwell, SC, and Wesley McCatherine of Sumter, and numerous special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his son, Eric Adam Rygalski.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob White officiating. The inurnment will immediately follow the service at Sumter Cemetery, with full military honors.
