Sumter, SC …..Timothy Smith, age 62, husband of Joyce Smith died on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Carolina Pines Regional Hospital in Hartsville.
Timothy was born on April 27, 1959, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Rev. JW and Helen (Erickson) Smith. He and his family moved from Mississippi to Sumter in 1968. He attended classes in Sumter and had a degree in accounting and graphic arts from Central Carolina. In 1972 Timothy was paralyzed in a car wreck and went on to regain limited mobility. Those who knew him saw him attending school and a public job despite his disability. His bravery and determination were an inspiration to everyone. His cheerfulness and humor made him a favorite to everyone.
Timothy worked for Wilson Wholesale Jewelry which became Service Merchandise in the Sumter Mall. He later went on to work for many years as a jewelry repair specialist at Jewelry Wholesale. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Becky.
He is survived by a stepson, Don Harrison (Brittany) of British Columbia, Canada; two sisters, Charlotte (Ovead) Alford and Melody (Larry) Wakefield; two brothers, Theron (Tanya) Smith and Andy (Tammy) Smith; three grandchildren, Hanna, Evelyn, and Liam; nine nephews and nine nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 10:00am at the First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Theron Smith and Rev. Andy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearer will be, Tracy Edwards.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, from 6:00-8:00pm at Bullock Funeral Home. The family will receive friends other times at the home of Ovead and Charlotte Alford, 708 Henderson Street, Sumter, SC 29150.
