Tommy Quitman Frederick Sr., born on September 14, 1931, in the United States, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. He lived a life marked by service and dedication, exemplified by his time in the active Army from 1955 to 1958, where he was stationed in various locations, including Fort Arguello, Monterey, and Seaside, California. He proudly served during the Korean War era, contributing to the defense efforts amid the conflict between East and West Germany.
On October 22, 1962, Tommy married the love of his life, Lauralie Sue Leeper with whom he shared a partnership filled with love and support until her passing on August 19, 1999. Together, they created a family and shared countless memories.
A master carpenter for his entire life, Tommy had a passion for building. Even into his 80s, he crafted birdhouses, gazebos, and swings, bringing joy to family and friends with his creations. Tommy was also an avid fisherman, known for his entertaining big fish stories that would light up any gathering. He was quick-witted and always brought life to any party, sharing laughter and joy with those around him.
In his youth, Tommy shared his love of music, writing, playing, and singing country songs with his band. He cherished the moments spent singing to family, friends, and children, leaving a lasting impression with his musical talent. He was also a devoted dog lover, having brought joy into his life through his two beloved dogs, Benji, a miniature Yorkie, and Peanut, a chihuahua.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lauralie Sue Frederick, his parents, Earnest and Lula Bell Frederick, his son Timmy Frederick, his daughter Debbie Ledbetter, sister-in-law Sharon Miller, brother-in-law, Shorty Metcalf, Cecil 'Bus' Leeper, as well as his brother Sam Frederick, Jim Frederick, and sister Fannie Fast.
Tommy is survived by his son David and wife Debra Frederick of Ohio, daughter Doris Lynn and husband Randy Minteer of Pennsylvania, son Tommy Frederick and partner Angela Tidwell of South Carolina, daughter Tammy and husband Doug Hogue of Oklahoma , daughter Diane and husband Scott Lanier of Texas, and a host of grandchildren. He also has one surviving brother Doodie Frederick of Texas.
Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, dedication, and a profound appreciation for family that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be laid to rest at Concord Presbyterian Church 3335 W Brewington Road Sumter, SC 29168
