Sumter,.. Virginia Anna Taylor, age,96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at her residence.
Born in Palmerton, PA, daughter of the late George Smith and Jennie (George) Smith.
Virginia graduated from Palmerton High School. After graduating she joined the Army Air Corp in 1945. Virginia was a World War II US Army veteran serving as a surgical technician. She earned the Meritorious Unit Service Plaque, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. During her service in the US Army, she traveled to many different states and countries. After the War, she met and married the love of her life Harry Edwin Taylor. Virginia then transitioned to homemaker. She was a very devoted wife and mother. Virginia and Harry were happily married for 67 years. She loved to laugh and work in her garden. Virginia loved her church; and was a longtime active member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter. Virginia loved the Lord and couldn’t wait to get to heaven and walk the streets of gold with her Saviour. Virginia was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; her husband Harry Edwin Taylor; a son, Douglass Wayne Taylor; her stepparents William Redline and Else Silfies; two stepsisters, Pauline Rabenoff and Betty Cressman.
She is survived by; a brother, Wilbert Smith (Ruby) of Lehighton, PA; three sons, Dennis Brian Taylor of Sumter, SC; Robert Dale Taylor (Mary) of Eagleville, TN; and John William Taylor (Terri) of Sumter, SC; three daughters, Terry Lou Windham (John) of Murrells Inlet, SC; Carolee Mock of Sumter, SC; and Jo Williams (Cameron) of Fresno, CA; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Trina, Beth, and Meronica of Agape Care. Also, a special thank you to Sallie Askeu of At Your Service Home Care. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter in her honor.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am. Funeral Service to immediately follow at 11:00am on Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter. Burial will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery Columbia, SC on Wednesday, June 15, at 10:00 am
