Sumter, SC…William Charles Urquhart, age 88, beloved husband of 22 years to Sallie Owens Urquhart, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Lancaster, Ohio, on May 11, 1937, he was the son of the late William Leslie Urquhart and the late Isabella Miller Urquhart. He served as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard for ten years, during which time he was on active duty in France with the US Air Force during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He retired from property management in Charlotte, NC, in 1999, at which time he moved to Sumter. He worked part-time in Sumter at the Dollar General Stores until 2012, where he was nicknamed “Mr. Wonderful Bill”. He was an avid golfer and loved auto racing, college football, and dancing. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, left behind to cherish his memory are his three sons, Steven L. Urquhart Smith and his wife Sylvia of Oklahoma, Christopher M. Urquhart and his wife Missy of Indiana, and Anthony M. Urquhart and his wife Nikki of Indiana, one daughter, Jamie Lyn Belote and her husband Preston of Sumter, six grandchildren, Ashleigh, Derah, Kade, Cory, Christian, and Breanna, and five great Grandchildren, a very special niece Missy McKnight and her husband Delmar of Ohio, and his precious fur babies, Hershey and Elvis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Lilyon J. Johnson and her husband Bill Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
