Sumter, SC… Carolyn James Billheimer, age 87, beloved wife of 60 years to the late Robert Eugene Billheimer, died Monday, October 9, 2023, at her residence.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Tommie Woodrow James and Mabel Louise Fountain James. Carolyn had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and she served him faithfully throughout her life. She was a charter member of First Assembly of God in Sumter, where she enjoyed playing the piano for church services as well as singing in the choir. She also served her church in the nursery, she taught Sunday School and worked with their Rainbows program as well as serving on many other committees in her church. Carolyn was very proud of her 42 years of Civil Service at Shaw AFB in Sumter. Her service included 24 years in personnel, 2 years in the 9th Air Force, and 16 years in Base Civil Engineering, where she retired in 2005. Carolyn continued to coordinate retiree luncheons, after her retirement, until the time of her passing. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her girls, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never missed a birthday.
Surviving to cherish her memory are; three daughters, Tami Shelley and her husband Russell of Simpsonville, SC, Kim West and her husband Cliff of Charleston, SC and Renee Hill and her husband David of Mills River, NC; A brother, Tommie James and his wife Barbara of Camden, SC; a sister, Helen Rice, and her husband Benny of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Matthew West and his wife Claire, Megan West McWethy and her husband Casey, Laura Siefert and her husband Zack, Allyson Shelley, Hannah Shelley, Daniel Hill and his wife Jaika, and Joshua Hill and his wife Megan; thirteen great grandchildren, Molly McDaniel, Colton Hill, Meric McWethy, Hayden Siefert, Jenson Hill, Madison McWethy, Tallon Hill, Murphy McWethy, Barrett Hill, Hampton Siefert, Lawson Hill, Gunner Hill and Liam West.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Betty Dionne and brother-in-law, Ray Dionne.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Philip Simun officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Bullock Funeral Home.

We would like to thank Quality Private Caregivers for helping the family take care of mom during illness over the last one and a half years. We want to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to Samantha Tindal of Quality Private Caregivers, LLC for the excellent care that she gave to Ms. Carol. She was not only her caregiver, but she was a friend to her and our family. We could not have had peace of mind without her presence daily in the home!
