Sumter, SC…Doris Evelyn Parker West, age 86, beloved wife of 61 years to the late James Robert “Bob” West, died on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Pocotaligo River Health and Rehab.
Born in Erwin, NC, she was the daughter of the late Issac Warren Parker and Mary Lilly Gregory Parker. Doris was a Godly Christian woman whose faith in Jesus was evident in her daily life. She was a longtime member of Bethesda Church of God in Sumter, SC, where she served fervently in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher, part of the sewing ministry that made the costumes for many of the drama productions. Doris was a leader in the church women’s ministry as well as that of Knitting Hearts Ministry. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family and that of being a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Doris embraced the role as her family’s matriarch, and she made every occasion together a special memory that will last forever. Although Doris will be dearly missed, we rejoice in the fact that she joined her husband Bob in Heaven as they worship their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ together for eternity.
Surviving to cherish her memory are a son, Ritchie West of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Randi (Heath) Hinson, Walker West, Chris (Diana) Reardon, Nichole West, Jordan (Bryce) Korb, Mallory (Andrew) Lovice, and Ted (Kelci) Westmoreland; eleven great grandchildren, River James West, Copelyn Hinson, Wyatt West, Cade Reardon, Finn Reardon, Delainey Korb, Isabelle Korb, Raelynn Korb, Wylie Korb, Harris Lovice, and Paislee Westmoreland; a daughter in law, Kim and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Sonia West, a grandson Jason Robertson, three brothers and five sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Bethesda Church of God with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. The interment will follow the service in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service, on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 12:00-1:00 pm at Bethesda Church of God.
