Sumter, SC…Floyd Whitfield, age 88, beloved husband of 66 years to the late Margaret Hanley Whitfield, died of natural causes on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born in Cedartown, GA, he was the son of the late Otis Whitfield and Iris C. Whitfield. After graduating high school, Floyd joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He was stationed in New York, where he met and married Margaret. Together, they owned and operated Honda of Sumter since 1972. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by; a son, Ronnie Whitfield, and his wife Carol of Sumter; two daughters, Debbie Whitfield Stewart and her husband Reynolds of Barnwell and Catherine Whitfield Corbett and her husband Warren of Aiken; nine grandchildren, Aaron Whitfield, Stacie Clark, Mandy Geddings, Ryan Barnhill, Whitney Barnhill, Alicia Jones, Todd Corbett, Curtis Corbett, and Kayla Corbett and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a great grandchild, Colton Clark.
A memorial service honoring the lives of both Floyd and Margaret will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 5:00–6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Bullock Funeral Home.
