Sumter, SC…. Kathleen Porter Brown, age 91, beloved wife of 68 years to John Nelson Brown, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at her residence.
Born in Mt. Vernon, OH, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Porter and Elma Kinney Porter. A strong woman of faith, Kathleen was a dedicated member of Crossbridge Christian Church. Her faith was evident in her life as she was the kindest and most generous woman you could know. She loved children and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She also trained others how to be an effective teacher and director of God’s word to children. She dedicated her life to making a home for her husband and children and woke up every morning preparing breakfast for her husband before he left for work. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, John D. Brown and his wife Debbie of Alliance, OH, Thomas L. Brown and his wife Mary of Sumter, SC, and Timothy L. Brown and his wife Maria of Sumter, SC; two daughters, Marcia Woodward and her husband Norman of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Jeannine Bare and her husband Ted of Mansfield, OH; 19 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Crossbridge Christian Church with Pastor Greg Wilgus and Elder Marty Kitchens officiating. The burial will follow the service in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 11:00 – 12:00 pm at Crossbridge Christian Church.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
