Marvin Wayne Vannoy

Sumter, SC…Marvin Wayne Vannoy, age 89, beloved husband of 69 year to Betty Jo Chambers Vannoy, died on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his residence. 

Born in Eddy, OK, he was the son of the late Albert Riley Vannoy and Mable Lee Vannoy.  He enjoyed his childhood, being raised on a farm in Oklahoma.  After graduating high school, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954.  He served in the Navy for four years before transitioning to the U.S. Air Force.  He served in the Vietnam as well as during the Korean Conflict. Marvin retired as a MSGT after a total of 22 years of service.  After his retirement, Marvin worked as a volunteer at Tuomey Hospital for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge as well as the American Legion Post 15.  Marvin was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for many years.  He will be remembered as a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; two sons, Larry Wayne Vannoy and his wife Lisa of Madison, AL, and Kevin Lane Vannoy and his wife, Roberta of Sumter; a daughter, Cathy Lynn Vannoy Parker and her husband Kenneth of Duluth, GA; A sister, Daisy June Copeland and her husband Chuck of Pheonix, AZ; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin Lane, Ashley, Dustin, Adam, Heather, Shannon, Ryan, and Joshua, and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by; four brothers, Milbert Vannoy, Richard Vannoy, Robert Vannoy, and LeRoy Vannoy, and two sisters, Hazel Swingle, and Elanor Lively.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Aldersgate UMC with Rev. Laura Whitt officiating.

The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Aldersgate UMC.

The interment will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
