Sumter, SC…. Richard Scott Bell, age 80, beloved husband of 55 years to Margaret Bell, died on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.
He leaves behind his loving wife, two children, and three grandchildren. He was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, lived in Baltimore, Maryland, and built a life with his family in Sumter, South Carolina. An intellectual by nature and sociologist by profession, he was a highly regarded professor at the University of South Carolina, Sumter for decades. He was never without a book in hand, and he loved the arts, political debate, and red wine.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 am at Bullock Funeral Home.
A reception will follow the service at Bullock Funeral Home.
