Manning, SC.....William Charles Hatfield Jr., “Charlie”, 77 passed away Tuesday May 28, 2024.
Charlie was born in Sumter to the late William C. Hatfield Sr. and Shirley P. Hatfield.
After a career in Law Enforcement, including service with Sumter Police Department and Manning Police Department, he retired from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. He also previously owned and operated Hatfield Signs.
Charlie was a talented artist, musically and in his painting. His freehand lettering and striping skills were distinctive and unmatched. Charlie taught himself to play the guitar at an early age and was a gifted singer. He spent most of his life playing and singing Country music at home and on stage. Music and motorcycles were his passion. During his tenure at Sumter Police Department his favorite patrol vehicle had two wheels. He loved Harleys and over the years owned some fantastic bikes. His work, his music and his motorcycles brought him lifelong friends that he loved dearly.
He is survived by a daughter Kelli Romay of Summerton, granddaughters Kaitlin Geddings and Cassidy Evans of Sumter, and grandsons Cristian Romay and Cruz Romay of Summerton.
In addition to his beloved wife Barbara and his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Diane Hatfield.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday June 2, 2024, at Bullock Funeral Home Chapel in Sumter.
